Metallurgical Engineer A/Sr. (Posted 5/3/10)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides technical direction and assistance on
primarily metallic material matters in support of product design, quality,
manufacturing and purchasing functions of NSK Corporation. Represents NSK
Engineering in matters related to production material requirements and
material processing requirements for NSK Corp manufacturing plants and for
NSK suppliers. Serves as a focal point for approval and guidance of North
American domestic material sources. Provides assistance to NSK Corp plants
in heat treatment process definition and controls.
- Provides guidance regarding materials for use in
bearing components.
- Prepares material specification and maintains NSK
Corporation material specification documents.
- Defines heat treatment specifications for bearing
components.
- Provides technical assistance to NSK Corp plants
for heat treatment process control and materials analysis.
- Provides technical assistance to design, quality
and purchasing department for material specification and approval of
variances from specification.
- Communicates with materials engineering functions
of NSK Ltd. and the European Technical Center for worldwide material
development activities and material specifications.
- Utilizes metallurgical expertise related to
bearings, steelmaking, and metal forming, to complete failure analysis
and conduct problem solving activities related to materials and
materials processing issues.
- Conducts the following activities and/or utilizes
the following equipment at high proficiency: Hardness, Metallographic
Analysis, SEM, Image Analysis, and Sample Preparation.
- Must be able to communicate metallurgical and
materials analysis information concisely and clearly in reports.

Knowledge & Skills
This job requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in
a related field and 4 to 6 years of position-related experience; preferably
6 to 8 years of position-related experience.
**Position may be filled at the Metallurgical Engineer
A (29) level or Sr. Metallurgical Engineer (30) level based on experience.

Senior Metallurgical Engineer (Posted 7/17/08)
My client does Power Boiler Retrofits and has an
opening for Sr. Metallurgical Engineer. This person will be responsible for
providing technical direction and contributions to a broad range of
metallurgical activities including material selection, high temperature
material behavior, effects of service environments, failure analysis,
remaining life estimates, and manufacturing processes including welding.
This position will focus on metallurgical R & D activities and will be
expected to provide technical insight and leadership on topics ranging from
creep strength enhanced ferritic steels through advanced stainless steels to
nickel based alloys for future plant concepts. Must be able to execute
metallurgical investigations and material test programs. A working knowledge
of the materials re! quireme nts of ASTM and ASME standards, particularly
the boiler and pressure vessel code would be advantageous. Some experience
with modeling of material behavior, characteristics and performance would be
beneficial. The successful candidate will likely hold a PhD in Metallurgical
Engineering or equivalent. Welding Engineers or Materials Engineers with a
revelant background will also be considered, with a minimum of five years
experience in related field or equivalent. Demonstrated expertise in
directing materials research activities is required.

DESCRIPTION:
Perform chemical and environmental analyses on product
samples and processing solutions in accordance with the customer's
requirements and company standards. Provide technical assistance and perform
chemical process tests to support the Plant Process Engineers and
Supervisors. Perform Steel analyses for customer inquiries, product
development and returned orders. Maintain chemical laboratory equipment and
maintain records. The position also includes some oversight and fill-in
responsibilities in the wastewater treatment area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in Chemistry or a scientific/chemical engineering
related discipline and 5+ years of metals industry experience.
